Somewhere in the late 1980s, Yaa Peprah Amekudzi our Founder and Creative Director fell in love with beading for herself, having watched her paternal grandmother and two other close friends create exquisite adornments made with a wide variety of beads. 

 

According to Yaa Peprah Amekudzi, “I started to read about beads as I was determined to make jewelry with only authentic and rare beads.  This learning journey has taken me very far in my understanding of beads and my respect for every single bead I use.  I started making beaded jewelry for personal use but realized that friends and family members were keen to own a piece.  What had begun as a hobby was gradually turning into a business.  Such fun it was and still is creating what you love and getting paid for it.  Most importantly, creating handcrafted artwear that speaks to the heart of the patron”.

 

Kai-biyoo as a company was finally registered in 2014 to engage even better with a gradually expanding patron base.  The expansion included beads for adorning the body but also excitingly, for decorating living spaces.  What had begun as a hobby from Yaa Peprah Amekudzi’s small worktable in the corner of her room was now a full-fledged boutique.  Our newly commissioned location is Kanda Estates in Accra.  

By establishing The Shop, Kai-biyoo as a company has created a much needed space for hobbyists to display and sell their art alongside handcrafted work by Yaa Peprah Amekudzi
